Why I like my clients to fail
Most clients come to me because they perceive that in some way they have failed. Perceived is the important word.
Because as a mindset coach, I believe that failure can be a powerful tool for personal growth and success.
If we look back on what we thought as failure, often the situation that spurred it can be how we reach new levels of strength, character and build a better life in ways we never thought possible.
AND I’m no being Pollyanna about this! There’s good research on it.
Research shows that failure can teach us valuable lessons. It can:
build resilience
encourage risk-taking that works
foster creativity
help us appreciate success.
By reframing our relationship with failure and seeing it as a useful tool rather than a source of shame or fear, we can unlock parts of our character we didn’t know we had and achieve greater success!
Those groups of people that constantly refine from feedback, like elite sportspeople and those innovators amongst us show parts of their brain that light up to take in the feedback.
Whereas those who have a fixed mindset don’t have those areas of the brain light up at all - and they stay the same.
When we fail, we have an opportunity to learn from our mistakes and improve our approach.
If the feedback is good, it can help us refine our strategies and make better decisions in the future.
Want to fail forward? Embrace the failure to get you to a better place!
